Meet Sassy, the Potbellied Pig
Now we can see the pot bellied pig exhibit, home to Sassy. Sassy arrived at the Zoo in early 2016 and was a few months old upon arrival. She was bought as a house pet but was surrendered soon after. Many people who buy pigs later abandon them when they realize that there are no mini or teacup pigs, and pigs can grow to weigh more than 100 pounds. Pot Bellied Pigs need to be kept on a strict diet because they are very susceptible to being overweight. Sassy is also one of our most intelligent animals at the zoo, as she can recognize frequent visitors and her keepers. Adult potbellied pigs weigh about 120-180 pounds, and these pigs can live in marshy wetlands and forests, open woodlands, or in a farm environment.
